Backstory
-
Origin:
When the Maimed Virulence descended upon Phlan, I became one of the countless casualties of its ruin. For nearly a year, I lived as the plaything of a capricious and cruel master — the green dragon Vorgansharax. Before that horror, my life was simple and still. I was a monk living on the outskirts of Phlan — tending a modest garden, studying the old texts, and dedicating my days to balance of spirit and body. When the dragons came, my brothers and sisters of the monastery joined the city’s defense. Most perished beneath acid and flame. Those who survived were taken — myself among them.
In captivity, the dragon’s servants conducted their vile experiments. I lost my sight to their alchemy and awoke with a twisted hand, its skin hardened into something like a dragon’s scale. My reflection became a thing I could no longer recognize. Now, I hide my scars beneath heavy pigments, but no amount of paint can disguise the way others look at me: curious at first, then quietly horrified.
Whether I escaped through fortune or by the dragon’s design, I still cannot say. I fled into the forests beyond Phlan, where I was found and taken in by the Circle of Spores, a wandering druidic tribe devoted to the balance of life, decay and renewal. They nursed me back from the edge of death, teaching me to see the world anew — not with eyes, but with the attentive awareness of all that lives and rots beneath the soil.
For years I’ve wandered with them, seeking out natural anomalies — places where the balance falters — and restoring harmony where we can. Yet I cannot shake the question that haunts me still: Why was I spared?
The dragon’s brood vanished without a trace, leaving only poisoned memories behind.

Motivation:
Now, the Circle has sent me to Chult where rumors of the Death Curse spread like blight. Anyone who was ever resurrected is now slowly wasting away, and no resurrection magic works anymore. Priests say the souls of the dead are trapped and cannot reach the afterlife. It might be another nature anomaly, but I really hope it's connected to Vorgansharax influence.
